Critical points

Armenia does not require a titre test from EU-origin pets. However, if you are planning onward travel from Armenia to any third country, confirm that country's requirements. Some destinations require the titre test regardless of where the journey began.

Brussels has two airports: Brussels Airport (BRU, Zaventem) and Brussels South Charleroi (CRL). Cargo handling for pet transport is primarily from BRU. Confirm your carrier's departure point before booking.

Temperature embargoes during summer months on Gulf hub carriers (Emirates, Qatar, Flydubai) can restrict pet cargo acceptance. Plan travel for spring or autumn where possible.

Brachycephalic breeds (Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Persian cats) face restrictions on some carriers. Verify before booking if your pet is flat-faced.

What Armenia requires for EU-origin pets

Armenia’s import rules for personal companion pets from EU countries are relatively straightforward. The key documents are a valid microchip, current rabies vaccination, and an official health certificate endorsed by FASFC. There is no titre test requirement for pets arriving from Belgium or other EU member states.

The SSFS (State Service for Food Safety) is the competent authority in Armenia. On arrival at Zvartnots International Airport (EVN), SSFS vets inspect the health certificate and check the pet’s condition. Provided everything is in order, the pet clears customs without quarantine.

Armenia’s rules are confirmed at ssfs.am. As with any international move, regulations can change. Verify requirements with the Armenian Embassy in Brussels or with an IPATA-registered agent before travel.

Cargo options from Brussels to Yerevan

There is no direct cargo service from Brussels to Yerevan. All routings involve a hub connection, typically Istanbul (IST) or one of the Gulf airports (Dubai or Doha).

Turkish Airlines Cargo is the most straightforward option for this route. BRU to IST is a regular service, and Turkish Airlines operates from IST to EVN with cargo facilities for live animals. The IST connection is usually manageable in terms of transit times, and Turkish Airlines Cargo is experienced on Caucasus routes.

Emirates SkyCargo via Dubai is an alternative, with the BRU-DXB-EVN routing. This is a longer total journey but Emirates has strong pet cargo infrastructure at DXB. The same applies to Qatar Cargo via Doha.

For very small pets, Wizz Air operates from Brussels (both BRU and CRL) to Yerevan and accepts small animals in the cabin. This keeps your pet with you throughout the journey. Confirm weight limits (typically under 8kg including carrier) and book the cabin pet space in advance, as availability is limited.

FASFC endorsement: the Belgium-specific step

Belgian export health certificates must be endorsed by FASFC (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain, fasfc.be). This is the official endorsement that validates the certificate for international travel.

The endorsement process involves an FASFC-authorised vet completing the EU-format health certificate after a pre-travel examination, then submitting it to the relevant FASFC provincial inspection office for endorsement. Allow one to two working days for the endorsement process, and start this within the 10-day validity window of the certificate.

The certificate must be issued within 10 days of travel and be endorsed by FASFC before the pet travels. If you are unsure which FASFC office covers your area, fasfc.be lists provincial contact details.

FAQ

Common questions about this route

No. Armenia does not require a rabies titre test for pets arriving from EU member states including Belgium. A valid EU health certificate endorsed by FASFC, current microchip, and up-to-date rabies vaccination are the main requirements.
Brussels Airport (BRU, Zaventem) is the primary airport for pet cargo from Belgium. Brussels South Charleroi (CRL) handles some Wizz Air cabin pet movements but is not generally used for cargo pet transport. Confirm with your carrier which departure point they use.
Book cargo space four to six weeks in advance. This gives time to confirm pet cargo acceptance on both legs, process the FASFC health certificate within its 10-day window, and manage any scheduling issues.
Wizz Air accepts very small dogs in the cabin on Belgium to Yerevan routes, subject to weight limits (typically under 8kg including carrier) and space availability. This is not a cargo option. Larger dogs must travel as cargo via a hub carrier.
No quarantine is required for compliant pets arriving from Belgium with a valid FASFC-endorsed EU health certificate. SSFS vets inspect the documents on arrival and the pet is released without detention if everything is in order.
