Gulf hub vs European hub from Brazil to Bangkok

Brazil to Thailand is a long-haul move regardless of routing. The two main options are via a Gulf hub (Doha or Dubai) or via a European hub (Paris CDG primarily, or Frankfurt).

Gulf routing is typically faster for the actual flight time. Qatar Airways Cargo from GRU to DOH to BKK and Emirates SkyCargo from GRU to DXB to BKK both perform well for live animal cargo. Both DOH and DXB have established animal handling facilities and good Brazil connections.

European routing via Paris (Air France Cargo) or Frankfurt (Lufthansa Cargo) is slightly longer in total transit time but gives access to some of the best live animal cargo handling in the world at CDG and FRA. For owners who prefer European-hub routing, this is a dependable option.

Both approaches work. The choice usually comes down to available cargo space on your travel dates and which agent has the strongest relationship with which carrier on this corridor.

What Thailand's DLD import permit process looks like from Brazil

The DLD import permit application is submitted by email directly to the Animal Quarantine Station at your arrival airport. For Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, that is the Suvarnabhumi AQS. For Chiang Mai, it is the Chiang Mai AQS.

Send your pet’s microchip number, vaccination records, proposed travel date, and a completed application form. Processing takes 5-7 Thai business days once the AQS has all documents. The permit is then emailed back to you and is valid for 60 days from issue.

A Bangkok-based pet relocation agent can handle this application and liaise with the AQS on your behalf. If you are unfamiliar with the Thai process, using a local agent reduces the risk of documentation errors.

FAQ

Common questions about this route

No. Thailand does not require a titre test. You need a microchip, current rabies vaccination (at least 21 days before travel, within 12 months), core vaccines for dogs, the DLD import permit, and a MAPA health certificate from a Brazilian official vet. Source: Thailand DLD, 2026.
Not routinely. If your import permit is valid and documentation is in order, Thailand does not impose standard quarantine. However, the AQS quarantine officer can detain pets for up to 30 days at their discretion. Complete paperwork is the best protection. Source: Thailand DLD, 2026.
Gulf routing via Doha (Qatar Airways) or Dubai (Emirates) is the most direct option. Air France via Paris is a reliable European-hub alternative. The choice depends on cargo space availability and agent connections on your travel dates.
