FAVN titre test and 5-month preparation from Colombia
Under EU Regulation 576/2013, Colombia is a non-listed third country. Your pet must have a FAVN titre test result of at least 0.5 IU/ml from an EU-approved laboratory. A 3-month waiting period then runs from the blood sampling date. Source: food.ec.europa.eu, 2026.
ICA (Instituto Colombiano Agropecuario) endorses the EU-format health certificate on the export side. Issued by an ICA-registered official vet within 10 days of travel, endorsed by ICA before departure. Total preparation from starting to departure is approximately five months.
Routing via hub and Italy no breed ban
There is no direct cargo service from Bogota El Dorado (BOG) to Rome Fiumicino (FCO) or Milan Malpensa (MXP). All routings connect via a European hub. Iberia via Madrid (MAD) and Air France via Paris CDG are the two main options.
Italy removed its national breed-specific legislation in 2009. Italian Ministry of Health vets carry out a documentary inspection at FCO or MXP on arrival, but no breed classification is applied. For Colombian families with breeds restricted in Germany or France, Italy is the more permissive destination.
