Importing Your Pet to Czech Republic

Moderate to import
Regulations verified

The Czech Republic is an EU member state and follows the EU Pet Travel Scheme. The SVA (State Veterinary Administration / Statni veterinarni sprava) handles import controls. For EU/EFTA pets: EU Pet Passport. For pets from the UK, US, and other non-EU countries: an EU Animal Health Certificate (AHC).

The Czech Republic does not require quarantine for compliant pets. Prague Vaclav Havel Airport handles most pet movements into the country and has official veterinary check facilities.

The Czech Republic borders several non-EU countries including Ukraine and Belarus, and the SVA has experience handling third-country pet movements.

Pets from non-EU countries entering the Czech Republic

From the UK: an AHC endorsed by APHA is required. From the US: a USDA APHIS-endorsed health certificate in EU AHC format. From Australia: a health certificate endorsed by DAFF.

All non-EU pets need: ISO microchip, valid rabies vaccination, and the endorsed health certificate. From countries where a titre test is required, the blood must be drawn at least 30 days after vaccination and the pet must wait 3 months after a successful result before EU entry. Pre-notify SVA for third-country imports.

Using the Czech Republic as an EU entry point

Pets from non-EU countries sometimes enter the EU through the Czech Republic, particularly those arriving overland from Ukraine, Poland or Slovakia. The Czech Republic has an official EU entry point at Prague Airport and at road border crossings with approved Border Inspection Posts (BIPs).

If entering the EU through the Czech Republic before travelling to another EU member state, all documentation must comply with EU import rules. Once through Czech border control, the pet can move freely within the Schengen area.
