What this route typically costs
Critical points
The rabies vaccine exemption applies to dogs at least 8 months old from a CFIA-recognised rabies-free country. A younger puppy, or a cat, should have its exact requirements confirmed directly with CFIA rather than assuming the same exemption applies without qualification.
The new Fiji Airways-WestJet direct service only started in June 2026, flying three times a week. Confirm current cargo capacity before assuming a booking slot is available on your preferred date.
This direction is genuinely the light one. A pet travelling from Canada into Fiji faces a mandatory minimum 30-day quarantine on arrival, because BAF's own risk framework, not the CFIA's, governs that direction. Fiji's rabies-free recognition by Canada has no bearing on how Fiji treats pets coming the other way.
Approved carriers for this route
Not all airlines accept live animals. We book only with carriers that handle live animal cargo correctly.

Advice worth following
Check the airline’s crate size and labelling rules early. An undersized or wrongly labelled crate is a frequent reason pets are refused at check-in.
Ask about temperature embargoes for your travel window. Summer and winter cargo restrictions can rule out certain routes and dates entirely.
Microchip before you vaccinate. The microchip must be in place before the rabies shot for the vaccination to count, and getting this order wrong is the most common and costly mistake.
Use an official, government-authorised vet for the health certificate, not just your usual clinic. Many destinations only accept certificates signed by an approved vet.
