Indonesia is not on the EU's list of approved countries for pet imports, which means dogs and cats entering Denmark from Indonesia must meet the full non-listed country requirements under EU Regulation 576/2013. That includes an ISO …
Each step must be completed in a precise sequence. Start early. We manage every stage and deadline.
1
Implant ISO 11784/11785 microchip
Responsible: Your veterinarian in Indonesia
First step. Before any vaccination. Find a vet in Indonesia who uses ISO-standard chips.
2
Administer rabies vaccination
Responsible: Your veterinarian in Indonesia
After microchip. Allow 30 days before titre test blood draw.
3
Titre test blood draw
Responsible: Your veterinarian + EU-approved laboratory
Minimum 30 days after vaccination. Sample must go to an EU-approved laboratory. Allow 3-4 weeks for results.
4
3-month wait (if titre test result is the first compliant result)
Responsible: N/A (waiting period)
EU rules require 3 months to pass from the date of the successful titre test blood draw before entry. This wait is mandatory.
5
Obtain BARANTAN/BKIPM-endorsed export health certificate
Responsible: Indonesian government vet + BARANTAN/BKIPM
Within 10 days of travel. Book government vet appointment early.
6
Book IATA-compliant cargo flight
Responsible: You or your pet transport agent
Several weeks before travel. Confirm live animal acceptance with cargo agent.
7
Travel day: pet travels as cargo. DVFA checks documentation on arrival at CPH.
Responsible: You + cargo agent
Deliver pet to cargo desk 3-4 hours before departure.

Required. FAVN or ELISA rabies antibody titre test, minimum 0.5 IU/ml. Blood drawn at least 30 days after the most recent vaccination. Allow 3-4 weeks for results from an EU-approved laboratory.
Quarantine
No quarantine on arrival in Denmark, provided titre test and all documentation are compliant.
Import permit
Not required by Denmark for compliant pets.
Health certificate
EU Annex IV non-listed country health certificate, completed by an Indonesian government vet and endorsed by BARANTAN/BKIPM. Must be issued within 10 days of travel. Endorsed by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) on arrival.

{'required': True}
Costs
What this route typically costs
Airline cargo fees (Jakarta or Bali to Copenhagen, varies by weight and crate dimensions)
IATA-compliant travel crate
Microchip implantation (if not already done)
Rabies vaccination
Titre test laboratory fee (EU-approved lab, often requires shipping sample internationally from Indonesia)
BARANTAN/BKIPM export endorsement fee
Pet transport agent fee (strongly recommended for this route)
Critical points to read before you book
The 3-month post-titre-test waiting period is fixed under EU Regulation 576/2013. There are no exceptions. If your pet has never had a compliant titre test, the minimum preparation period is around 6 months from the start of the microchip and vaccination process.
EU-approved titre test laboratories are not available in all Indonesian cities. Your blood sample may need to be shipped internationally (often to the UK, Belgium, or the Netherlands). This adds time and cost.
Indonesia is not on the EU list of approved countries. Your health certificate must follow EU Annex IV format and be endorsed by the competent authority (BARANTAN/BKIPM). An unendorsed Indonesian certificate will not be accepted.
Denmark bans 13 dog breeds. Confirm your breed is permitted before starting preparations.

EU import rules for non-listed countries: what Indonesia's status means
The EU maintains a list of countries from which pets can enter with simplified documentation. Indonesia is not on this list.
Pets from non-listed countries must meet the following requirements to enter Denmark (or any EU country):
Microchip: ISO 11784/11785 standard, implanted before the first rabies vaccination.
Rabies vaccination: valid at time of travel, administered after microchipping.
Titre test: FAVN or ELISA rabies antibody test, minimum result of 0.5 IU/ml. Blood drawn at least 30 days after the most recent vaccination. Must be performed at an EU-approved laboratory.
3-month wait: EU Regulation 576/2013 requires 3 calendar months to pass from the date of the successful titre test blood draw before the pet can enter the EU. This wait cannot be shortened.
Health certificate: EU Annex IV non-listed country format, completed by an Indonesian government vet and endorsed by BARANTAN/BKIPM. Issued within 10 days of travel.
The documentation is inspected by the DVFA at the first EU point of entry. For pets flying to Copenhagen, that point of entry is CPH.
Getting a titre test done from Indonesia: the practical challenge
The EU-approved laboratory requirement is the biggest logistical hurdle on this route. Approved laboratories must be recognised by the EU under Regulation 2020/689. As of 2024, there are no EU-approved titre test laboratories in Indonesia.
Your options:
Ship the blood sample internationally to a recognised laboratory. The most commonly used options for Indonesian residents are the Animal Health Trust laboratory in the UK (now operating under different management), Sciensano in Belgium, and CSIRO in Australia. Your vet draws the blood, the sample is packaged to IATA P650 standards for diagnostic samples, and shipped via courier.
Use a laboratory in Singapore. Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA)-accredited labs in Singapore may accept samples, and Singapore’s proximity reduces transit time. Check current EU approval status before committing.
Allow 3-4 weeks from blood draw to results, plus international shipping time. If results come back below 0.5 IU/ml, revaccination and retesting is required before the 3-month clock starts again.
BARANTAN and the Indonesian export process
All animal exports from Indonesia are controlled by the Agency for Agricultural Quarantine, now operating under BKIPM (Badan Karantina Indonesia). The export health certificate must be:
Completed by a government veterinarian registered with BKIPM
Endorsed with the BKIPM official stamp and signature
Issued no more than 10 days before travel
The certificate covers microchip number, vaccination history, titre test results, and health status. Any discrepancy between the certificate and your pet’s actual records will cause problems at the Danish border.
Book your BKIPM inspection appointment at least 2-3 weeks before your planned departure. Offices at Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta, CGK) and Bali (Ngurah Rai, DPS) both handle export health certificates for animal exports.
FAQ
Common questions about Indonesia to Denmark pet transport
At least 28-36 weeks from the start of preparations. The fixed steps are: microchip (if not already done), rabies vaccination, 30-day wait before titre test blood draw, titre test results (3-4 weeks), then a mandatory 3-month wait from the titre test blood draw date before your pet can enter the EU. Add time for BKIPM export certificate processing and cargo flight booking.
Denmark, as an EU member state, requires the titre test for pets from non-listed countries under EU Regulation 576/2013. Indonesia is not on the EU’s approved country list. Pets from EU-listed countries (including most of Europe and several others) can enter without a titre test. Indonesia’s disease profile means it does not currently meet the EU’s listing criteria.
There are no direct cargo flights from Indonesia to Copenhagen. All routings require at least one hub connection. Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates via Dubai, Singapore Airlines via Singapore, Lufthansa via Frankfurt, and KLM via Amsterdam are the established options. Choose a single-stop routing to minimise handling time and transit stress for your pet.
No quarantine is required in Denmark, provided your pet’s documentation is fully compliant: valid titre test (0.5 IU/ml minimum), 3-month wait observed, EU Annex IV health certificate endorsed by BKIPM, and a valid ISO microchip and rabies vaccination. If documentation is incomplete or the waiting period has not been observed, your pet may be refused entry or placed in quarantine at your cost.
You are not legally required to use an agent. But for Indonesia to Denmark, a specialist agent saves significant time and reduces the risk of documentation errors that could delay or block your pet’s entry. The titre test logistics from Indonesia, BKIPM coordination, and cargo flight booking all benefit from an agent who knows the route.
