Critical points

The three-month wait after the titre test is non-negotiable. Start five months before your planned departure at minimum.

Bali has a documented rabies history. If your pet has spent time in Bali, ensure the vaccination and titre test history is clearly documented. UK authorities may have additional questions.

Indonesia-to-UK pet moves typically route via Singapore or Dubai. Both are well-established cargo hubs for live animals, but the additional transit point adds complexity. Use an experienced pet transport agent.

The new AHC template is required from October 2026. Ensure the OV in Indonesia is using the correct template.

Indonesia is unlisted: what that means for the process

Great Britain’s Pet Travel Scheme divides countries into listed and unlisted. Indonesia is not on the listed country list, meaning pets from Indonesia must go through the unlisted country process before entering the UK.

This requires: microchip before vaccination, rabies vaccination, a blood draw at least 30 days after vaccination at an APHA-approved laboratory (confirming at least 0.5 IU/ml), and a three-month waiting period from the date of the satisfactory blood draw. The total minimum preparation time from day one is roughly five months.

One aspect that surprises owners: the three-month wait runs from the blood draw date, not from when the results arrive. Send the sample, wait for the result, but the clock started on the day the blood was taken.

The Bali consideration

Bali has had periods of documented canine rabies. If your pet has lived in or visited Bali, ensure the vaccination and titre test record is complete and clearly documents where the animal was living at the time of vaccination and blood draw. UK import authority inspection officers may ask additional questions about an animal’s residential history in a rabies-affected area.

This does not block UK entry for well-documented pets, but it makes thorough record-keeping more important. Keep all veterinary records, vaccination certificates, and titre test reports in chronological order.

Routing via Singapore or Dubai

There are no direct cargo services from Indonesia to the UK. The standard routing is via Singapore (Changi) on Singapore Airlines, or via Dubai on Emirates SkyCargo. Both are experienced cargo hubs for live animal transport with climate-controlled facilities.

The Singapore routing is typically shorter total journey time and SIN has well-established live animal handling. The Dubai routing via Emirates adds a different connection option. Either way, confirm that live animal cargo is accepted on your specific connecting flights, as not every scheduled service has capacity for live animals.

FAQ

Common questions

No, provided the titre test has been completed with a satisfactory result and the three-month wait has fully elapsed. The UK does not impose quarantine on pets from unlisted countries that have met all the requirements. Your pet will be inspected at the approved UK entry port, and if all documentation is in order, will be cleared for entry.
Your vet in Indonesia can draw the blood sample for the titre test. The sample typically needs to be sent to an APHA-approved laboratory, most of which are in the UK or Europe. Ask your vet in Bali or Jakarta, or a UK-based pet transport agent, which APHA-approved laboratories accept samples from Indonesia. Results usually arrive within two to three weeks of the blood draw.
OVs who can issue AHC documents for UK entry are typically found through specialist pet relocation companies in Indonesia, particularly in Jakarta and Bali where the expat community is large. The AHC is a specific UK format document and not all Indonesian vets are familiar with it. A UK-based pet transport agent can usually recommend OVs in Indonesia who regularly handle this documentation.
There are no direct cargo services from Bali (DPS) to London. The standard routing is Bali to Singapore Changi or Bali to Dubai, and then on to Heathrow. Garuda Indonesia operates some longer routes but connecting cargo via SIN or DXB is generally more reliable for live animals. Your pet transport agent will identify the best routing based on your departure date and the airlines’ current live animal cargo availability.
For UK entry, the health certificate (in AHC format) must include: microchip number, full vaccination details (including rabies), titre test result and date of blood draw, tapeworm treatment record for dogs, and a declaration that the animal appeared healthy at clinical examination. The OV must be authorised by UK APHA to issue AHCs. Confirm this with your vet or agent before the certificate is prepared.
