Overview
Indonesia requires a 30-day quarantine on arrival, a BARANTAN import permit from the iQFast system, and a FAVN titre test. For an Italy-to-Indonesia move, the ASL endorses the health certificate, Singapore Airlines Cargo or Qatar Airways connect FCO to Jakarta, and the quarantine is served at Soekarno-Hatta. Start the BARANTAN permit application first. Expect a four to six month preparation window.

Why the BARANTAN permit comes first

The BARANTAN import permit specifies the approved entry point, the documentation requirements, and the quarantine facility for your specific pet. Without it, you cannot finalise the health certificate format or confirm the quarantine booking. Starting with the permit application is the right sequence.

The iQFast portal requires registration before you can submit an application. An experienced Indonesian pet transport agent can assist with the process if the online system is unclear. The permit typically takes 4 to 8 weeks and may come with queries that require follow-up.

Routing FCO to CGK: the Singapore connection

Singapore Airlines Cargo via Singapore is the preferred option for Italy to Indonesia pet cargo. Singapore Airlines has an established live animal handling programme, and the Singapore transit is manageable in terms of timing.

Qatar Airways via Doha and KLM via Amsterdam are alternatives. Emirates via Dubai also serves CGK. Garuda Indonesia does not accept pets as cargo. Confirm acceptance and crate size limits with your chosen airline before finalising the booking.

FAQ

Common questions

BARANTAN approves specific quarantine entry points and facilities. CGK (Soekarno-Hatta) handles most international pet cargo arrivals and is the primary quarantine point. Other approved entry points exist, but CGK is where most Italy-to-Indonesia cargo arrives. Your import permit will specify the approved entry point.
The blood draw must be done in Italy by your vet. The sample is sent to a BARANTAN-approved laboratory for analysis. Italian vets who work with international pet transport agents will know which laboratories are approved for Indonesian import. Results typically take 5 to 14 working days.
The ASL (local health authority) veterinary services endorse the health certificate on behalf of the Italian Ministry of Health. The format required by BARANTAN may be different from the standard EU health certificate format used for EU travel. Your vet and agent need to ensure the certificate format aligns with BARANTAN’s current requirements. Some BARANTAN permits specify the exact certificate format.
Quarantine facility costs in Indonesia vary and change periodically. The only reliable way to get current costs is to check with the BARANTAN facility directly or through your pet transport agent. Budget for facility fees, daily care, veterinary checks during the 30-day stay, and any additional health treatments required during quarantine.
