Overview
Malaysia is an unlisted country for EU pet travel, so the FAVN titre test and 90-day wait are required for Denmark entry. The DVS export health certificate is the Malaysian side of the process. KLM via Amsterdam is a natural route for Malaysia to Denmark cargo. Denmark adds no tapeworm treatment requirement, which simplifies the final step. Budget five to six months preparation time.

DVS and the Animal Passport portal

Malaysia’s Department of Veterinary Services manages pet exports through its network of district offices and the Animal Passport portal at animalpassport.dvs.gov.my. Your DVS-registered vet prepares the health certificate, and DVS conducts a physical inspection before issuing the export health certificate.

The DVS document and the EU AHC are both required for Denmark entry. Allow at least a week for DVS processing. If your vet is experienced with international pet exports, they will know the portal process and the timings involved.

KUL to CPH: the Amsterdam connection

KLM’s hub at Amsterdam (AMS) is the natural gateway for Malaysia to Copenhagen cargo. KLM operates direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam, and AMS to CPH is a well-served connection. KLM Cargo accepts live animals on both legs, and the Amsterdam hub handles animal welfare during transit.

Malaysia Airlines via a European hub and Qatar Airways via Doha are alternatives. For large dogs, confirm space availability on the specific departure date, as hold space for large crates can book up quickly on popular routes.

FAQ

Common questions

No. Denmark does not quarantine pets from Malaysia provided the full EU requirements are met: ISO microchip, valid rabies vaccination, FAVN titre test result of 0.5 IU/ml or above, completed 90-day wait from the blood draw date, and EU AHC issued within 10 days before arrival. The border inspection at Copenhagen is documentary, not a quarantine hold.
Yes. The EU unlisted country rule applies to both dogs and cats. Both must have an ISO microchip, a valid rabies vaccination, a FAVN titre test (0.5 IU/ml or above), a completed 90-day wait, and an EU AHC to enter Denmark from Malaysia.
If the result is below the threshold, the 90-day clock does not start. The vet reviews the vaccination programme, typically booster vaccination followed by a repeat blood draw and retest. The 90-day wait then starts from the date of the first blood draw that produces a result of 0.5 IU/ml or above. This can add several months to the preparation timeline.
Typically 3 to 7 working days, depending on the district office workload. Apply during the 90-day wait period, not at the last minute. The DVS certificate has its own validity window, so time the application so the certificate is current on the travel date.
