What this route typically costs
Critical points to read before you book
Apply for the SSFS import permit 8-10 weeks before travel at ssfs.am. The permit is the entry requirement for Armenia.
The Dutch EU pet passport covers intra-EU travel only. For Armenia, the NVWA export health certificate is the correct document.
No titre test is required for pets from EU member states entering Armenia. Current vaccination and ISO microchip are the core requirements alongside the SSFS permit.
Turkish Airlines via Istanbul is the most direct and reliable cargo option from Amsterdam to Yerevan. Confirm live animal acceptance before booking.

SSFS permit and NVWA certificate: the document pair
Two documents drive the Netherlands-to-Armenia process. First, the SSFS import permit from Armenia’s State Service for Food Safety (ssfs.am). Apply this 8-10 weeks before travel with your pet’s details. Second, the NVWA export health certificate, issued by an official vet authorised by the NVWA (Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit) within 10 days of travel.
The EU pet passport is not valid for Armenia. The NVWA export certificate is the document Armenia’s SSFS inspection team at Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport (EVN) expects to see alongside the permit. Armenia does not require the FAVN titre test for pets arriving from EU member states including the Netherlands. Current rabies vaccination and ISO microchip are the core health requirements.
Amsterdam to Yerevan via Istanbul
Turkish Airlines connects Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) to Istanbul (IST) with regular daily flights. From IST, Turkish Airlines operates multiple services to Yerevan (EVN). Turkish Airlines Cargo handles live animal freight on this corridor.
The AMS-IST-EVN routing takes approximately 7-10 hours total, depending on connection time at Istanbul. This is a comfortable transit for healthy adult dogs and cats in compliant crates. Schiphol is well set up for live animal cargo departures, with the NVWA border inspection facility available for inbound animals.
Flyone Armenia, an Armenian carrier, operates some European routes including Amsterdam. If they accept live animal cargo on AMS-EVN services, this could be a more direct option. Confirm with Flyone Armenia Cargo directly.
The NVWA export health certificate process
For non-EU destinations, Dutch pet owners need an official health certificate from an NVWA-authorised official veterinarian (Officieel Dierenarts). The EU pet passport does not function for Armenia.
Contact an NVWA-authorised practice in the Netherlands to schedule the pre-export examination. The vet checks microchip, vaccination status, and your pet’s general health, then issues the export health certificate. NVWA endorsement follows.
The endorsed certificate must be issued within 10 days of travel. Plan the vet appointment and NVWA endorsement to fall within that window. NVWA offices are available across the Netherlands; contact your vet for the nearest authorised practice.
