Pet Transport Pakistan to USA: CDC High-Risk Requirements and 2026 Routing

There are no direct flights from Pakistan to the USA. All cargo routes involve at least one transit: via Dubai on Emirates, via Doha on Qatar Airways, or via London on British Airways with an onward connection. The journey time from Lahore or Karachi to a US city runs 18 to 24+ hours including transit.

For a pet, this is a significant duration in cargo. Crate preparation matters: adequate ventilation, water provision, and size are non-negotiable on long-haul routes. Emirates via Dubai to New York JFK or Los Angeles LAX is the most commonly used routing for Pakistan to USA pet cargo. Qatar via Doha is the close alternative. Both carriers have well-established Gulf live animal handling, though summer heat embargoes at both hubs affect live animal acceptance in June through September.

The Animal Quarantine Department (AQD) under Pakistan’s Ministry of National Food Security and Research endorses both the export permit and the Certification of Foreign Rabies Vaccination and Microchip form. This form, once AQD-endorsed, is the central document for the CDC high-risk pathway, alongside the CDC Dog Import Form and the serology titre result.

Apply for the AQD permit early, at least six weeks before travel and ideally at the same time you start the titre test process. AQD may require an inspection of the animal at one of its facilities, which can add time and requires planning if you are not based near a major city with an AQD office.
