What this route typically costs
Critical points
Peru is unlisted for UK pet travel, making the titre test mandatory. The 90-day wait after a successful test is a fixed requirement. You cannot appeal for a waiver or abbreviation. Plan your timeline from this constraint outward.
Lima (LIM) routes to London are not direct. Your pet cargo will transit through Madrid or another European hub. Verify that the transit airport and carrier arrangement complies with UK entry requirements and that live animals are accepted throughout.
Pit Bull Terrier type dogs cannot be imported into the UK under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. Peru restricts these breeds as PPP (Perros Potencialmente Peligrosos) within Lima. Verify your dog's type against UK restrictions before starting the process.
SENASA endorsement takes time to process. Do not leave the export authorisation to the last few days before travel. Apply at least four weeks out.
Planning around the 90-day wait
The 90-day wait after a successful titre test is the thing most owners do not factor in early enough. It starts from the date of the blood draw that produces the passing result. If your vet draws blood, sends it to the lab, and the result comes back at 0.5 IU/ml or above, the 90-day clock starts from the blood draw date, not the result date.
This means that if you intend to travel in, say, October, the blood draw needs to happen by mid-July at the latest. The vaccination needs to have happened by mid-June at the latest (30 days before the blood draw). Work backwards from your intended travel date and you will quickly see why four to five months is the minimum.
Once the titre test has been successfully passed and your pet stays current on rabies boosters, the titre result stays valid. If your pet has already passed a UK-standard titre test for a previous move and the vaccination has not lapsed, you may be able to travel within weeks rather than months.
Lima cargo options and SENASA documentation
Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport handles substantial cargo volume to Europe. Iberia via Madrid is the most direct routing for Lima to London pet cargo. LATAM Cargo from Lima is also a strong option with connections to European hubs. The transit through Madrid is generally manageable for animal welfare given the relatively short duration.
SENASA (Servicio Nacional de Sanidad Agraria) handles both the export authorisation and the endorsement of the health certificate. Apply for the export authorisation online at least four weeks before travel. Your SENASA-authorised official vet issues the health certificate within 10 days of departure, covering all required information for UK border inspection.
