Does my pet from Poland need a titre test for Australia?
No. Poland is DAFF Group 2 (rabies-controlled), and Group 2 countries are exempt from the RNATT titre test. This means no blood draw, no waiting period after vaccination for titre purposes, and a shorter overall timeline compared with pets from Group 3 to 6 countries.
What is still required: ISO microchip before any vaccination, current rabies vaccination within its validity period, DAFF import permit via BICON, quarantine booking at Mickleham, cargo to Melbourne (MEL), and the official PIWet health certificate in DAFF’s required format. What role does PIWet play in the export health certificate process?
PIWet (Glowny Inspektorat Weterynarii / Chief Veterinary Inspectorate) is Poland’s central authority for animal health and veterinary certification. For pets leaving Poland to Australia, the official export health certificate must be issued by a PIWet-authorised official vet (urzedowy lekarz weterynarii) in the DAFF-required format for Group 2 countries.
The certificate is valid for ten days from issue. From 1 October 2026, the new EU export format under EU Regulation 2026/131 applies. Confirm the current DAFF-required template with your official vet before booking the appointment. Source: PIWet, wetgiw.gov.pl (2026).
Which airlines carry pets from Poland to Melbourne?
There is no direct Poland-to-Melbourne flight. All pet cargo moves via a hub. Emirates via Dubai from Warsaw Chopin (WAW) is the most commonly used route. Qatar Airways via Doha and Singapore Airlines via Changi are viable options. LOT Polish Airlines connects from Warsaw to European hubs, from which onward cargo can be arranged via the Lufthansa Group network (LOT is Star Alliance).
All airlines carry pets as manifest cargo only. Book eight to twelve weeks ahead. Routes via the Gulf are subject to summer heat embargoes. All pets must arrive at Melbourne International Airport (MEL).
