Critical points
New Zealand's 6-month titre test wait is longer than Australia (90 days) and the EU (3 months). Minimum preparation is 8-10 months. Start immediately.
Only Auckland (AKL) is an approved MPI entry point. Do not book any other NZ city as the first destination.
10-day quarantine is mandatory and owner-paid. Budget for the facility cost before you commit to the move.

New Zealand’s 6-month wait makes it significantly longer to prepare for than Australia (90 days). The UK has listed country status with NZ and avoids the titre test entirely. Singapore and Hong Kong face the full 6-month wait.
Airline comparison: Singapore to Auckland
| Airline | Route | Pet policy | Transfers | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore Airlines | SIN-AKL direct/via SYD | Cargo only | 0-1 | Best option. Direct services available. Live animal facility at Changi |
| Air New Zealand | SIN-AKL via connections | Cargo only | 1+ | Via Melbourne or Sydney typically |
| Qantas | SIN-SYD-AKL | Cargo only | 1 (SYD) | Two legs. Brachycephalic restricted year-round |
Singapore Airlines is the clear choice for this corridor. A direct SIN-AKL service minimises handling. The 45-day health certificate window that MPI allows (vs 10 days for most countries) gives a little more flexibility on the certification timing.
The 6-month wait: why NZ is longer than Australia
Australia uses a 90-day titre test waiting period for Group 3 countries. New Zealand uses 6 calendar months from the blood draw date. MPI sets this independently of DAFF’s framework, based on their own biosecurity assessment.
For Singapore pets, this means: vaccination, wait 30 days, blood draw, wait 6 months, then travel. The 6-month clock starts on the blood draw date, not the date results arrive. If you draw blood on 1 January, the earliest your pet can arrive in New Zealand is 1 July.
There are no exceptions and no shortcuts. New Zealand is one of the most biosecurity-conscious countries in the world, and the waiting period is a core part of that system.
