Does my pet from Sweden need a titre test for Australia?
No. Sweden is DAFF Group 2 (rabies-controlled), and Group 2 countries are exempt from the rabies neutralising antibody titre test (RNATT). This means no blood draw, no minimum wait after vaccination for titre purposes, and a shorter overall preparation timeline.
What is still required: ISO microchip before any vaccination, current rabies vaccination within its validity period, DAFF import permit, quarantine booking at Mickleham, cargo reservation to Melbourne, and the official Jordbruksverket health certificate in DAFF’s required format. How do I get my pet from Sweden to Melbourne?
There is no direct Sweden-to-Melbourne flight. All pet cargo moves via at least one hub. Emirates via Dubai and Qatar Airways via Doha are the most commonly used options from Stockholm Arlanda. Singapore Airlines via Changi is another viable route. Finnair connections through Helsinki to further hubs are also possible but add complexity.
All airlines carry pets as manifest cargo only. Book eight to twelve weeks ahead. Routes via the Gulf are subject to summer heat embargoes. All pets must arrive at Melbourne International Airport (MEL). Routing through any other Australian city is not permitted.
What health certificate does my pet need from Sweden?
The official export health certificate for pets leaving Sweden to Australia must be issued by a Jordbruksverket-authorised official veterinarian (officiell veterinär). The certificate must follow the DAFF-approved format for Group 2 countries and is valid for ten days from the date of issue only.
From 1 October 2026, the new EU export health certificate format under EU Regulation 2026/131 applies to non-commercial movements from Sweden to third countries.
