Working through the titre test and permit process
The titre test is the first time-sensitive step. Blood must be drawn at least 30 days after your pet’s most recent rabies vaccination, sent to an APHA-approved laboratory, and the result (minimum 0.5 IU/ml) documented before the import permit application goes in. Verify the current Bangladesh requirement with the Department of Livestock Services at the start, as the position for UK pets can be updated. Most recent information indicates a titre test is required from the UK.
Once the titre test is confirmed positive, apply for the import permit from Bangladesh’s Department of Livestock Services. Allow at least 6 weeks for the permit to be processed. The permit application requires microchip details, vaccination records, the titre test result, and the intended entry point (normally Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka).
Quarantine on arrival and planning your timing
Bangladesh imposes a minimum 7-day quarantine on all imported dogs and cats on arrival. The facility is managed by the Department of Livestock Services, and the owner is responsible for all costs throughout the quarantine period. You will not be able to collect your pet on the day they land.
On the airline side, this is not a route where direct non-stop flights are common from the UK. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the national carrier and operates between Heathrow and Dhaka with live animal cargo options. Gulf carriers via Dubai or Doha are alternatives, but any connection adds to your pet’s total travel time in the crate. Confirm the airline’s live animal policy and the specific aircraft type on your route, as some aircraft do not accept live cargo in the hold.
