Permit and titre test: verify first, then proceed
Jordan’s General Directorate of Veterinary Services issues the import permit. Apply at least 4 weeks before travel with your pet’s microchip details, vaccination records, and planned entry date. Jordan classifies countries by rabies risk, and the USA is not classified as a rabies-free country. This means a titre test may well be required for US pets. Check with the General Directorate or a pet transport agent at the start of your planning, as a titre test extends the timeline by 5-7 weeks.
If no titre test is required, the overall process is more straightforward: vaccinations, permit, and USDA health certificate. The permit and health certificate steps can run close together once you have a confirmed travel date.
Breed restrictions and arriving at Queen Alia
Jordan restricts the import of Pit Bull Terrier types, Rottweilers, and Dogo Argentinos. If your dog falls into any of these types, contact the General Directorate before proceeding. For other breeds, no national breed restriction applies.
On arrival at Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Ministry of Agriculture veterinary officers inspect incoming pets. For compliant pets from the US, no quarantine follows. The inspection is typically brief. Small pets may be eligible for Royal Jordanian cabin travel, where the combined weight limit is typically around 8-10 kg including the carrier. Larger pets travel as cargo.
